Trolltunga Adventures · Skjeggedal (P2)

Overnight at Trolltunga, in a tent

You start at 11:15, reach the rock around five in the afternoon as the day hikers head down, and sleep in your own tent a short walk away. It's the trip for people who want Trolltunga quiet at both ends of the day, without carrying a tent and stove 10 km up the mountain.

Trolltunga Overnight Hike with Camping

About this experience

Trolltunga Adventures is one of the two guide companies trolltunga.com lists, and this is its Trolltunga Classic. The group meets at P2 at 11:15 and takes a reserved shuttle to Mågelitopp (P3). From there it's about 10 km of trail, with detours to photo spots and a lunch stop at a waterfall around 15:00.

Timing is the whole point. You reach Trolltunga at about 17:00, when the midday queue has gone, and the camp sits 700 to 800 m from the rock at around 1,200 m. Each guest gets a private tent with a warm sleeping bag, a mat and a liner. Dinner is reindeer stew or a vegan version, and there's an evening swim if the weather allows. In the morning, coffee and breakfast are served in your tent, you go back to the rock in the early light, and you're at the car park between 14:00 and 15:00.

Now the small print. Parking at P2 and the Odda shuttle aren't included, and two days at P2 cost NOK 770 in 2026. You still walk about 20 km with a pack, and the company asks for travel insurance that covers adventure activities. On paper the season runs from 25 May to 15 September, but in 2026 the road to P2 stayed shut until 8 June after rockslides, so early dates depend on the road. Check the listing's cancellation terms before you book.

Tips before you book

  • Pack warm clothes for the evening. The camp is at about 1,200 m and nights are cold even in July.
  • Bring a headlamp late in the season. Daylight runs from almost 19 hours in midsummer down fast into autumn.
  • Swimwear is optional but the evening dip is real, weather permitting.
  • Book early-June dates with care: the road to P2 can open late, as it did in 2026.
  • Plan your parking: P2 is NOK 770 for two days, or take the Odda shuttle (about 30 minutes).
